The two associations jointly announced the merger Thursday. SGIA is a $12 million-revenue association based in Fairfax, Va. PIA is a $5.8 million-revenue group based in Warrendale, Pa.
SGIA CEO Fred Bowers will lead the new association as president and CEO. Michael Makin, current CEO of PIA, will become executive vice president. The groups did not say what would become of their other staff.
"As convergence increasingly continues in our industry, this newly-formed entity with PIA is the logical progression of our long-standing history together," Bowers said in a statement.
SGIA previously acquired NAPCO Media in 2019, and together the two produce the Printing United Expo and Conference, currently scheduled for October in Atlanta. SGIA also recently collaborated with PIA and its affiliates to launch a COVID-19 resource channel for printing and graphic industry.
